Professional Development Opportunities

2008 National Reading Recovery and K-6 Classroom Literacy Conference — February 9-12, 2008 — Columbus, Ohio

Offering initial teacher training, implementation support, ongoing professional development, and unlimited guidance and teacher support to any school district which implements Reading Recovery.

Reading Recovery® is a research-based, internationally known program with a long and successful history of helping teachers improve the reading abilities of low-achieving first grade children through one-to-one interventions. As a supplement to classroom teaching, individual students receive a half-hour literacy lesson each school day for 12 to 20 weeks with a specially trained Reading Recovery teacher. As soon as students reach grade-level literacy expectations and demonstrate that they can continue to learn through their own efforts, their lessons are discontinued, and new students begin individual instruction. Learn more about the Reading Recovery program.

The Illinois State University Reading Recovery Teacher Training Site offers initial Reading Recovery training to teachers in school districts which currently implement Reading Recovery or would like to in the near future. Following the initial training, Reading Recovery teachers and their school districts receive continuing support and professional development opportunities through the ISU training site.
