Implement Reading Recovery in your District
Become a Reading Recovery Teacher
Services offered at ISU Training Site
The training site at ISU offers initial Reading Recovery training to teachers in school districts which currently implement Reading Recovery or would like to in the near future.
After the initial training, Reading Recovery teachers continue to attend six professional development sessions per year at ISU.
Teacher leaders from the ISU training site make school visits during the training year and beyond to support the Reading Recovery teacher and move them forward in their learning.
ISU teacher leaders are available to assist Reading Recovery teachers through phone calls or e-mail any time, about anything.
The Illinois State University Reading Recovery Teacher Training Site works with each school to ensure the best possible implementation of Reading Recovery and, therefore, the best results.
Each year, Reading Recovery teachers submit data to Reading Recovery's National Data Evaluation Center housed at The Ohio State University. In return, school districts receive annual Reading Recovery data reports, one for the district and one for each school within the district. These reports guide the effective implementation of Reading Recovery, as well as provide insight into other literacy related issues in the school. Teacher leaders at Illinois State support Reading Recovery teachers and administrators as they analyze the data and make decisions based upon it.
When Reading Recovery is implemented in a school district, other educators in the district typically want to learn more. As a result, the ISU Reading Recovery Site provides annual Visitor Days, in which guests can observe a Reading Recovery lesson through a one-way mirror, while also listening to the current teachers-in-training discussing it. A general presentation is provided, and open discussions cover a wide range of topics.
